A wooden box (trap) with label next to a tree stump in the grass.
Pukeatua farmstay has 12 traps spread around the buildings and the paddocks. Every 2nd day they need checking for any caught rats or hedgehogs.
Cat sitting in front of empty bowl, looking up into the camera.
What can I say, the cats are special here. They are probably special everywhere, but I feel that we have an interesting mix of personalities. Especially Moonshine, he’s always good for entertainment.
Two black and white goats eating hay
The weather has turned from somewhat wet and warm to rather wet and cold. The horses have been rugged up just like the goats. The rodent infestation has become noticeable, so we started putting up more traps on top of the traps and bait stations we already had.
Within days, the hot summer weather had moved on and made space for moderate temperatures with rain and fog.

The warm and humid weather produced lovely field mushrooms to be harvested. Earlier we harvested basil, limes and potatoes.

It’s the time of the year again. It’s very dry, the soggy paddocks have dried up and it’s the perfect time to dig out all the drains.

An orange sky with a few clouds at the horizon over a green valley with low level light across
It’s been a few rather wet days. Some with intermittent sunshine but not enough to dry up the ground yet. The cats use the sunny breaks to go outside but other than that they seem to be in hibernation.
Closeup of brown
It’s so nice to get outside between rain break. The weather has been warming up over the the last days and we are getting 20 deg during the day.
Cows and alpacas in front of sunset
I picked a few pictures to keep you entertained and maybe – once we are out of lockdown – you may want to drop by for a stay and enjoy some time off. We will be opening in level 2.
Two grey ducls and a brick pathway in the wet with wet grass behind them.
It’s been rather wet, foggy and cold in the last couple of days. The cats spent more time inside and expressing a form of cabin fever when awake but they are mostly asleep. The horses are asking for more food, the chickens are hiding in their house and the ducks – well, the ducks are in their element.
Eastern Rosella on the fence line
After being rather busy over the last week before Christmas with a film crew on site and the typical “everything needs to be finished by Christmas” work frantic, we are now all truly in holiday mode. All at Pukeatua Farmstay wishing you a lovely and relaxed time and a Happy New 2021. May it bring prosperity and happiness.
