Front picture of a brown cow in a paddock with blurry trees in background
Half of January is over, and you be wondering what we have been up to.
A bunch of alpacas, all but one thin necks and little bodies other than one brown alpaca in the front, being fluffy and puffy
The month is almost over and has been rather eventful. From rain to sunshine to torrential rain again and alpaca shearing in between.
Young girl sitting on timber deck surrounded by pieces of pine branches
This year marks the first time that it was not us adults doing the wreath but our daughter herself with only very little guidance.
Two black and white goats eating hay
The weather has turned from somewhat wet and warm to rather wet and cold. The horses have been rugged up just like the goats. The rodent infestation has become noticeable, so we started putting up more traps on top of the traps and bait stations we already had.

Lots and not so much happened. New ducklings, alpaca maintenance, Christmas, holidays and lots of animal fun.
Person holding a rather fluffy alpaca head
Saturday was the day of the bi-annual alpaca maintenance
Eastern Rosella on the fence line
After being rather busy over the last week before Christmas with a film crew on site and the typical “everything needs to be finished by Christmas” work frantic, we are now all truly in holiday mode. All at Pukeatua Farmstay wishing you a lovely and relaxed time and a Happy New 2021. May it bring prosperity and happiness.

The last few months were pretty dry with no rainfall other than a few drops that pretty much instantly evaporated upon hitting the ground. I think the last rain was some time before Christmas last year which would make it three months with no rain at all.
Sage booming in a nice lavender colour
Spring soon will turn into summer and the weather during the day is already so awesome.
View of the flooded valley
Merry Christmas to everyone. Its been pretty wet all of yesterday and this morning the valley greets us with a bit of ponding water.
Rusty and myself
The munchers are happy again after I moved them over into the other paddock – the one with more grass. Seemed to be appropriate for them for Christmas.
Jolan and Tatjana with Shady
I would hope that our horses think that the feeders are very nice people, because we got them an extra special Christmas present just in time for the Waimauku Pony Club Christmas celebrations. And so Shady already had his first ride in the new horse trailer. Although he was a bit sceptical at first, he seems to be enjoying the smoother rides. We certainly enjoy the easy clean interior and the extra gear space.
