Alpaca maintenance was on the cards this week – One of our winter tasks… ‘Pedicure’ for each animal, vitamin injection and drenching.
The last bit of rain has been some time ago and the weather forecast shows no rain for the next two weeks.
We made use of the long weekend – yes, it’s Auckland Anniversary weekend – and did some farm maintenance.
We had a few hours of exploring our little bush strip in the gully.
A walk down the hill and saying hello to all the animals can be a really healthy exercise and you can discover the odd cool things when you look at details: fence wire knots
The last winter has been so terribly wet and turned all paddocks into mud that we decided to have the horses in a shelter and feed them rather than having them wading through mud and effectively thrashing the paddocks.
The weather is getting colder and wetter and other than that there are not too many news. So I decided to just publish a collection of autumn pictures. Enjoy.
Done… busy weekend making the most of the weather… weeding, fertilizing and oversowing paddock yesterday, pouring concrete in the animal shelter today. For years the shelter has been wet – this will hopefully make it drier and easy clean!
After almost months of no rain and hardly any grass growth, we finally have some rain. Some. I guess it may be classified as another 1:50 years storm of which we should be prepared to have more, more
Since we only have a horse float that I probably would not be able to get back up the hill (I have never tried but don’t want to), I just loaded Mary’s boot up with the firewood. Note: Mary is our 4×4, everything with motor or soul has a name at our place. Who needs a trailer?
After a long time of thinking, designing and making I’ve finally finished and installed our new Pukeatua letterbox… made from the same macrocarpa cladding that we’ve used to build the Farmstay
Good weather today to change the animals around. The grass at the upper paddock under the house has grown long so I moved the electric fence around and decided to let the alpacas have a stroll and mow some grass around the driveway – will save me time and petrol.
