Two calves, one plain brows and one brown with white patches standing in the corner of a shelter
When our son did a placement on a nearby dairy farm during calving season, they forgot to book a calf for the bobby truck. That was the beginning of Caramel’s story.
A bunch of alpacas, all but one thin necks and little bodies other than one brown alpaca in the front, being fluffy and puffy
The month is almost over and has been rather eventful. From rain to sunshine to torrential rain again and alpaca shearing in between.
Momma duck with her little ducklings
Apart from the usual winter farm activities, there has not been much exciting stuff happening. It’s been a typical winter with lots of rain, lots of mud but rather warm in comparison. It looks like nature has decided that it is spring.
Bunch of little brown ducklings on brick steps outside

A little grey-yellow duckling between childrens hands
A few days ago we found this little chirp under Fluffy’s wings. A duckling hatched by a chicken… Unfortunately it survived only for 2 days.
Two ducks, one sitting on a timber deck, the other in a flower pot right next to the other
Over the last couple of weeks several female Mallard ducks have been released back into freedom. The two which we released two weeks ago have turned into a permanent resident feature.
4 Mellard ducks plus male and femals Paradise duck in the paddock next to a concrete water trough
A few times in a row I have now been observing them in the paddock in the morning, making their way up the hill back to the house. Down at the pond or on their way up they must have met our resident paradise ducks.
