This year was special and I had not yet seen the water that high. Kumeu and Waimauku townships flooded too and other suburbs in West Auckland. For some it was pretty bad and I feel sorry for the affected people – and animals.

If not doing office work, we fix fences, move animals around, collect, cut and chop firewood, dig trenches, build goat houses 😉 and fix all sorts of things that break over time.

Today we said goodbye to Mocha, one of our Alpaca boys who was born here back in 2016. He went to a new home with a new buddy.

Saturday was the day of the bi-annual alpaca maintenance

It’s been quite some time since our fluffy alpacas have been up in the paddock. Down in the valley we hardly see them but tomorrow will be time for the half-yearly maintenance, meaning drenching, vaccination and toenail clipping.

A few days ago there was finally a window with no rain and a bit of time, so managed to fill 4 feed bags with pine cones. Pine cones are excellent fire starters, full of resin and a rather large surface, thus burn really well,…

The seasons are changing. Summer went and Easter and Autumn came around. We have been starting to prepare for winter to come.

A walk on our local backyard beach, Muriwai Beach. Home to a gannet colony and lovely black sand with beautiful sunsets across the ocean.

We created quills out of some duck feathers. They have the big advantage that the quill is actually pretty long already. Still not long enough to actually handle them properly though. Shaved some of the vane off and it was much better.
