Cows steaming in the cold air against the sunlight

Winter done and dusted

There was nothing extraordinary to write about this winter, really. It’s not been too wet and not too dry, neither too cold or too warm. We had a few frosty nights and a few pretty rainy days but all in all it was reasonably warm and okay from a mud perspective.

Every now and then some of our ex rescue ducks show up and asking for food or waddle around the house and picking the spiders and bugs off the cladding.

The cats are not fans of winter weather unless you lite a fire in the woodburner.

In the mornings, when it’s cooler in the house and the sun comes up outside, they seek any possibility to make good use of that sunlight.

You find cats scattered in sunny spots around the house, soaking up warmth and sunlight.

You need to be careful not to stumble across the fluffy trip hazards.

They say Auckland is not cold, you do not need heating etc. Well, that’s not entirely true. The nights can get cold and we can have frost when the sky is clear.

Particularly impressive is the steam coming off objects of all sorts when the sun comes up and warms up surfaces, Even if the surface is an alpaca or a cow 😉

Everything turns steamy.

The winter came with its usual fog and floods. Although the flooding seem to be getting more with more development and more sealed areas upstream.

We also had the odd storm with hail lighting, rain and thunder.

But all was good, nothing was damaged or has flown away and all buildings and animals are doing well.
