The vet found Daffy in his grandpa feeder for his chickens and Norbert got dropped of at the local vets. We thought we would take them home so they can be friends for our other rescue ducks.

The weather has not been too amazing over the last couple of weeks.

On Wednesday we got a new friend for the chicks. It is a duckling and is called Bludger. Bludger is a rescue as we got him of someone in the community.

Ziggy the cat went missing Sunday night and returned Monday morning injured. After emergency surgery at Vets North Kumeu, she’s now recovering safely at home.

The early spring mornings here are foggy and cold but beautiful.

This year we got two little baby choocks instead of calves.

When I was taking my little girl across the road to the school bus stop, I spotted a big fat bird in the tree that was watching me: A Kererū.

Yesterday Jolan came back with the first duck eggs. What a proud moment for the girl. And this morning she had one for breakfast.

The storm that hit us last Tuesday evening with wind speeds of more than 200km/h (Manukau Heads) left us without power and internet and only limited cell phone coverage. Power was restored yesterday afternoon, 3 days later.

Our new ducks have been temporarily located on our front lawn as as with all temporary things, they last far too long. So after a few months and completely destroying our lawn, the ducks finally moved onto the paddock next to the chicken.

the amount of rain we had over the last few days is extraordinary – at least on a subjective level. The occasional hours of sunshine in between evaporate the water quickly, hence yesterday we had 30 deg C. with 80% relative humidity.

Fascinating to see the difference in eggs when I put some of ours into the egg carton too. Keep in mind that our chicken are mostly ex-battery hens that once used to produce those cage eggs. They were not considered good and productive enough for…
