Who likes the weather when it’s raining and storming outside? No one – well, maybe the odd people that are happy that their grass is growing, like us humans inside. Oh, and the ducks! The ducks love it.
Found some Rosellas and Mr Naughty was over at the neighbour’s and was thinking what to do with the pheasants but decided quickly to let them be and carry on.
Funny to see the cat getting quite intimidated by the arrival of the ducks behind her and starting to freak and run away when one of the ducks started picking the cat’s tail.
Over the last couple of weeks several female Mallard ducks have been released back into freedom. The two which we released two weeks ago have turned into a permanent resident feature.
Contrary to Honky, our frizzle hen Fluffy has been broody for several weeks and been sitting on no eggs – chicken brains are funny. So we decided we give it a go and shoved the three duck eggs under her. She’s been a happy chicken…
A few times in a row I have now been observing them in the paddock in the morning, making their way up the hill back to the house. Down at the pond or on their way up they must have met our resident paradise ducks.
Today was a sad day at Pukeatua Farmstay. We had to say goodbye to Peekie, our female Buff Orpington Duck. She was all well last night and this morning we found her in a corner of the duck run. She must have died overnight.
