Flooding – groundhog day

Flooding in the valley is a pretty normal thing for us. It happens typically once or twice a year. Even in case we have not prepared for it, we are lucky enough to have space for the animals on higher ground even in case the lowest paddock floods – by design that is.

This year was special and I had not yet seen the water that high. Kumeu and Waimauku townships flooded too and other suburbs in West Auckland. For some it was pretty bad and I feel sorry for the affected people – and animals.

Our neighbours lost two of their steers in the floodwaters, they just swam over the fence but could be recovered a few days later. Lucky them. Some neighbours fences got pushed over by floodwaters and got fixed a week alter.

My thoughts are going out to those that suffered major damage and loss. Kia kaha.
