What a wet summer

Rain - lots of it

The occasional rain in summer is normal, the amount of rain we had over the last few days is extraordinary – at least on a subjective level. It may also be localised, that’s what the weather is like here: Having rain on one side of the valley bit not on the other, or just in the valley but not around it.

Still, the lawn is ponding with water, the duck can have baths on the lawn, the valley is flooded and the water tanks overflowing. The latter one is great, combined with the fact that everything grows so much and fast. Some things grow too fast, like the trees into the power lines – no power on Sunday for a few hours after I reported the smoking tree in the lines.

And when there is no rain - there is sunshine - lots.

The occasional hours of sunshine in between evaporate the water quickly, hence yesterday we had 30 deg C. with 80% relative humidity. In this weather you really want some windows and doors open in the evening, however that was not possible with hundreds of crickets crawling out of the earth holes and flying towards the light – your light in the house. So we spent a hot night with closed windows and doors, shuffling dozens of crickets back outside so you don’t have the chirping in your bedroom.

The cat seems to be multi tasking disabled and can only concentrate on a single cricket at any one time. So while one crawls underneath a blanket, she just sits there, waiting, while a dozen others jump all around her.

Enjoy the pictures.
