Today we separated the cows and the alpacas. The mowerbots (alpacas) are now on our upper paddock to get the grass under control. Look how high it has grown. The cows remain back in the other paddock and we have a new family member in the middle paddock. More news re the new family member later.
It’s been a few rather wet days. Some with intermittent sunshine but not enough to dry up the ground yet. The cats use the sunny breaks to go outside but other than that they seem to be in hibernation.
If not doing office work, we fix fences, move animals around, collect, cut and chop firewood, dig trenches, build goat houses 😉 and fix all sorts of things that break over time.
Saturday was the day of the bi-annual alpaca maintenance
A few days ago there was finally a window with no rain and a bit of time, so managed to fill 4 feed bags with pine cones. Pine cones are excellent fire starters, full of resin and a rather large surface, thus burn really well, long and hot.
The seasons are changing. Summer went and Easter and Autumn came around. We have been starting to prepare for winter to come.
We created quills out of some duck feathers. They have the big advantage that the quill is actually pretty long already. Still not long enough to actually handle them properly though. Shaved some of the vane off and it was much better.
