Tonight’s sunset (with some of Jolans soap bubbles floating around)
Sunset over towards Muriwai valley
This is just an example of the lovely sunsets here.
Cows steaming in the cold air against the sunlight
There was nothing extraordinary to write about this winter, really. It’s not been too wet and not too dry, neither too cold or too warm. We had a few frosty nights and a few pretty rainy days but all in all it was reasonably warm and okay from a mud perspective.
Feels like summer was just happening. Winter started off beautifully with warm days and sunshine over the long King’s birthday weekend.
A picture full of little red tomatoes
Summer has come to an official end, and one can tell. The nights are getting colder, the fog in the morning gets more, although beautiful to watch.
Two black and white goats eating hay
The weather has turned from somewhat wet and warm to rather wet and cold. The horses have been rugged up just like the goats. The rodent infestation has become noticeable, so we started putting up more traps on top of the traps and bait stations we already had.
Closeup of white mushroom
The warm and humid weather produced lovely field mushrooms to be harvested. Earlier we harvested basil, limes and potatoes.
Redish sunset over the hills turning the landscape red
We have not seen much rain in more than 2 months now but rather hot, sunny weather with wind. Both dries out the land, particularly the hillsides facing the Kaipara where the wind blows from and which the hot afternoon sun hits.
Base of chsritmas tree with presents and cat hiding behind branches
Lots and not so much happened. New ducklings, alpaca maintenance, Christmas, holidays and lots of animal fun.
An orange sky with a few clouds at the horizon over a green valley with low level light across
It’s been a few rather wet days. Some with intermittent sunshine but not enough to dry up the ground yet. The cats use the sunny breaks to go outside but other than that they seem to be in hibernation.
Cows and alpacas in front of sunset
I picked a few pictures to keep you entertained and maybe – once we are out of lockdown – you may want to drop by for a stay and enjoy some time off. We will be opening in level 2.
View across gannet colony with a gannet in the foreground and a large rock in the ocean behind.
A walk on our local backyard beach, Muriwai Beach. Home to a gannet colony and lovely black sand with beautiful sunsets across the ocean.
